Testing Subteam Progress

Milestones
Timeline

Read about our progress milestones starting in September of 2024 and what we have planned for the future.

Spring:
March - June 2025

Finite Element Analysis

A finite element analysis was performed on the inner socket of a transtibial prosthetic design using COMSOL Multiphysics.

Various outputs—including pressure distribution, strain, and displacement—were analyzed and visualized, providing valuable insight into the mechanical performance of the socket under loading. These findings informed ongoing design refinements

Winter:
January - March 2025

Market Research:

Research was conducted to determine the market need, focusing on identifying the most relevant residual limb types that could be addressed and what features were feasible to implement.

Adhesive Strength Testing

  • Shear Stress Test:
The adhesive bond between the pyramid adapter and the PLA-printed part was tested under shear stress using approximately 25 lbs of force for 30 minutes. Result: Successful.

  • Tensile Stress Test:
The adhesive bond was tested under tensile stress with approximately 25 lbs of force. Result: Successful.

Fall:
September - December 2024

Leg Load Cheat Sheet:
Based on existing studies, a cheat sheet of relevant load data on key parts of the leg during various gait cycles (tension and compression on the tibia) was compiled.

ISO Standards:
ISO standards for transtibial prosthetics were obtained and reviewed to ensure the design aligned with industry guidelines and best practices.

Adhesive Selection and Testing Setup:
Various adhesives were researched for connecting the pyramid adapter and PLA-printed parts, and one was selected for use. A setup for adhesive strength testing was developed and constructed.
